· The above items are not food. They do not count toward daily totals of any essential nutrients. Some are simply empty calories. Others act as toxins and may slowly harm body function or rob nutrient stores. Others have addictive, drug like qualities that destroy body's abilities to digest and absorb essential nutrients.

· Be a label reader. Make sure you are eating is real food. Because a substance is allowed in food does not mean it is safe or nutritious. A GRAS (Generally Recognized A Safe) designation given to a food additive/food stuff means that it has not yet been determined to have caused disease or death. We suggest not taking changes with artificial foods.

· Food means "matter that is alive or has recently been alive". You will find these items around the edges of your supermarket, at produce stands, farmers markets and in your garden.
